Monday, December 07, 2009

BAE Systems is cutting 642 jobs in its Insyte (integrated systems technology) business across the UK, blaming a falling workload.

The losses will come from eight of its 11 UK sites, with Portsmouth's Broad Oak to be hit hardest with the loss of 220 jobs.

125 jobs are to be cut from the Cowes site and 99 from Frimley, with further losses at Chelmsford, Christchurch, Filton, Hillend and New Malden.

Rory Fisher, managing director for BAE Systems Insyte, said: "We have a responsibility to address a reduction in our forecast workload and manage our cost base to remain competitive and meet our customers' future requirements.

"We will work with our employees and their representatives to explore ways of mitigating these potential job losses and we will ensure employees are fully supported throughout this process."

BAE Systems Insyte currently employs 3719 people.
