General Sir Peter Wall named as CGS

General Sir Peter Wall is to become the new Chief of the General Staff, taking over from General Sir David Richards in the autumn, it has been announced.
General Wall, currently Commander-in-Chief Land Forces, will take over in September this year. General Richards is to become Chief of the Defence Staff once Air Chief Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup finishes work on the Strategic Defence and Security Review.
Lieutenant General Sir Nick Parker, currently deputy commander of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, will take over from General Wall as Commander-in-Chief Land Forces, in the rank of General, in October.
Defence Secretary Dr Liam Fox, said: "I'm absolutely delighted with both of these appointments. We're very lucky to have men of such high calibre at this time."
