Soldiers 'may have had role in Kenya death'
15 August 2012
The government is assisting a murder investigation in Kenya after British soldiers were alleged to have been among those last seen with a prostitute killed in the country earlier this year, it has been reported.
Two soldiers are said to have been seen on CCTV entering a hotel with 21-year-old Agnes Wanjiru-Wanjiku shortly before she disappeared on 31 March. Her body was discovered in a septic tank at the hotel, in Nanyuki in Northern Kenya, on 5 June.
Nanyuki is used by British troops for pre-deployment training before they begin tours in Afghanistan.
A letter from Kenyan human rights group Social Watch to Kenya's Director of Public Prosecutions, seen by Sky News, claimed that a night guard bore witness to a fight in the room shared by one British soldier and Wanjiru.
An MoD spokesperson said: "This is an on-going Kenyan investigation and as such it would be inappropriate for the Ministry of Defence to comment further. We stand by to offer any assistance and cooperation that is required."
